Is this a trick question? I don't think a couple should stop dating.
Why? Because when you date you learn more about the other person and yourself and you enjoy life together, just to name a couple reasons.
If you mean prior to engagement, the answer is: it depends.
Reason? Because everyone is different. People feel comfortable progressing at different times and after different situations. Theoretically, people should be educated enough about the other person to know what they're getting into (...which is kind of the reason for this blog), they should feel some kind of emotional attachment, and basically, optimally, it would be an agreed-upon situation. But it depends because I can see how an arranged marriage could work, and that requires zero dating before marriage.
